Project description

The intervention proposal for Alto do Seixalinho, outlined by the Barreiro Municipal Council within the framework of the Strategic Urban Development Plan (PEDU) and approved by the Directing Committee of POR Lisbon, aims to achieve several fundamental objectives to improve the urban environment and the quality of life for its inhabitants. To achieve this purpose, the intervention aims to:

1-Reduce dependence on individual transport, especially private cars, by prioritising more sustainable forms of movement, such as pedestrian and cycling routes.

2-Integrate the Alves Redol and Caixa neighbourhoods territorially, strengthening social ties between communities and consolidating spatial continuity between the two neighbourhoods.

3-Adapt urban spaces to ensure accessibility for citizens with limited mobility, eliminating architectural barriers and upgrading urban furniture.

4-Upgrade and modernise urban spaces and the environment by creating new green spaces, revitalising existing ones, and implementing eco-efficient public lighting systems.

5-Promote the physical, economic, and social regeneration of deprived areas by creating multifunctional public spaces and stimulating local economic development.

6-Implement measures to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental quality by reducing energy consumption and noise levels, and promoting long-term environmental sustainability. In summary, the proposal seeks to address complex urban challenges by promoting an integrated approach that combines sustainable mobility, urban revitalisation, and environmental sustainability to create a more inclusive, dynamic, and sustainable urban environment for the residents of Alto do Seixalinho.
