Inauguration of the Valentim de Barros Studio Room

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the upcoming inauguration of our new project, the Valentim de Barros Studio Room located in the former shed of the Miguel Bombarda Psychiatric Hospital. The construction work began last October, in a context of limited resources and short time. However, it was made possible thanks to a strong and persistent partnership between Ateliermob, Working with the 99% and the Sou Largo co-op. This facility was created with the intention of transforming an unused location into a gathering place for arts, music, dance, and theater. The name pays tribute to the Portuguese dancer Valentim de Barros, who spent forty years enclosed at Miguel Bombarda Hospital. While this place was once synonymous of silence and social isolation, it is now filled with life and culture.

The opening of the Valentim de Barros Studio Room will take place on Friday, March 28th, at 9:00 PM, featuring the performance Auto das Anfitriãs by Inês Vaz and Pedro Baptista. Admission is free, but tickets must be collected at the D. Maria II Ticket Office — Bombarda Gardens, at Rua Gomes Freire, 161 – Lisbon, starting at 1:00 PM.
