Project for the Praça das Novas Nações at the "City & Childhoods" exhibition held at ETSAB
Exhibition at ETSAB (Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitetura de Barcelona), Barcelona School of Architecture), as part of the Symposium "Ciudad & Infancias"
Since November 12th, the Praça de Todas as Nações project is being showcased in an exhibition at ETSAB (Barcelona School of Architecture), as part of the symposium "Ciudad & Infancias".
This exhibition will be displayed for two weeks, following a series of debates focused on reflecting about the future of urban spaces, emphasizing the perspective of children rights and inclusive design cities.
The "Praça de Todas as Nações" project was developed under the BIP-ZIP program in a partnership between the cooperatives Working with the 99% and SOU Largo Residências, and with support from the school (Escola Básica Sampaio Garrido) and its students.
Between 2018 and 2019, we organized a public debate process about the future of Praça das Novas Nações, located in Anjos, Lisbon. One of the objectives was to understand local needs of the square users'. After consultations and several debates with local inhabitants and children, the need for a pedestrian pathway providing a direct connection between the square and the school was identified. Additionally, the idea of creating intergenerational and multifunctional play areas, distinct from a traditional chidren playground, was also decided.
For those reasons, the project was included in the ETSAB exhibition, which highlights the importance of designing cities for and with children.
